Phonics

Here at Bishop Lonsdale we teach phonics using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised Programme. This is a DfE validated synthetic phonics programme used to teach phonics daily to all children from Reception to Year 2. Children work in groups on a phase or grapheme that is matched to their current need. Through teaching Little Wandle we aim to help children to make connections “between the sounds of our spoken words and the letters that are used to write them down”. The children transfer the segmenting and blending skills learnt in phonics and apply this to their everyday reading.
